AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED

NL SUPPORT is very happy to announce that the results of the NL SUPPORT Patient-Oriented Research Grants and the TPMI/NL SUPPORT Educational Funding Competitions for this Spring have been decided and ratified by our Steering Committee. These competitions are an important part of our mission to encourage the growth of patient-oriented research in Newfoundland and Labrador, and represent almost $400,000 in funding to graduate students, post-doctoral trainees, and research teams.
 


The NL SUPPORT Patient-Oriented Research Grants Competition was launched in the fall of 2015, as a means of encouraging new patient-oriented research projects in the province by providing funding of up to $75,000 over a year. The call for applications opened in November 2015, and closed on January 31 2016.

 18 applications were received in all:
·         8 from the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University
·         5 from Faculties outside of Medicine (2 from Pharmacy, 2 from Nursing, 1 from Social Work)
·         4 from Regional Health Authorities (2 from Eastern Health, 2 from Western)
·         1 from Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information

After discussion and review we are pleased to announce that the following applications were recommended for funding:

Making the link: A mixed-method exploration of the impact of using telehealth to facilitate ABA orientation for families in rural areas of Western NL $43,216.39

The TPMI/NL SUPPORT Educational Funding Competition is a biannual student funding competition that provides a stipend to graduate students and post doctoral trainees of up to $14,000/$18,000 per year for Master's and PdH students and $45,000 for post-docs. This year's spring competition was the most successful yet, with over 20 applicants from the Faculty of Medicine, the Schools of Pharmacy and Nursing, and the Department of Computer Science. We are very happy to announce that eight applicants in all were selected for funding during this round:
